Letov Š-16
Letov S-16 and the subsequent type series are probably the biggest export success (Latvia, Turkey) and the most famous aircraft of designer Alois Šmolik.
The initiative to develop this machine was given in 1925 by the Ministry of National Defense, which needed appropriate advanced training and observation aircraft with longer range then the outdated planes captured at the end of Great War.
After comparative tests in 1928, the order was confirmed and extended to 89 planes of the basic model S-16 (45 planes) and the rest in the variant CS-16 which was a modification of S-16 for daily bombardment. Production and deliveries of the aircraft lasted until 1932 due to problems with engines, by which time it was already obsolete. Aircraft Letov S-16 remained in the equipment of the Czechoslovak Air Force until 1936 when they were gradually replaced by more modern aircraft Letov S-328.

Czechoslovak pre-war prototypes

Avia B-35, B-135
The Avia B-35 was a fighter aircraft built in Czechoslovakia shortly before World War II. It was designed to meet a 1935 requirement by the Czechoslovakian Air Force for a replacement for their B-534 fighter biplanes.
Avia B-135 was the production version of the Avia B-35 , but featuring a new all-metal wing.
The B-135/1 prototype attracted the attention of Bulgarian Air Force officers visiting the Avia plant, and a production contract for 12 aircraft was signed. Plans for further production were stopped by the RLM and the Bulgarian Air Force was encouraged to purchase the Messerschmitt Bf-109 instead.
In service, the B-135s gave continual engine problems and were soon relegated to training roles. Four aircraft did, however, see combat on 30 March 1944 when they intercepted USAAF bomber formations encroaching on Bulgarian airspace after attacking Ploieşti.

Aero A-102
The Aero A-102 was a Czechoslovakian fighter aircraft that flew in prototype form in 1934. It was developed in response to a Czech Air Force requirement of that year, but was passed over in favour of the Avia B-35.
The A-102 was of gull winged monoplane configuration with tailwheel undercarriage, and was perhaps inspired by the successful PZL P-11.

Avia B-158
The Avia B-158 was a twin-engined light bomber aircraft of the 1930s. Only a single example was built and it was abandoned following the German occupation of Czechoslovakia in March 1939.
In 1937, Avia started to build a single prototype of the B-158, a three-seat low-winged monoplane with inverted gull-wings, a retractable tailwheel undercarriage and 634 kW (850 hp) Avia (Hispano-Suiza) 12Ydrs engines, making its maiden flight in mid-1938. It was fitted with a twin tail to give a better field of fire for the dorsal gun position.
While the competing Aero A-300 gave superior performance, neither had entered into production by the time Germany completed its conquest of Czechoslovakia. After testing by the Luftwaffe at their test centre at Rechlin, the prototype B-158 was scrapped in 1940.

Letov Š-50
The Letov Š-50 was a 1930s prototype Czechoslovakian military general purpose monoplane designed and built by Letov.
The Š-50 was an all-metal twin-engined low mid-wing monoplane that first flew in 1938. Powered by two 420 hp (313 kW) Avia Rk.17 radial engines. It had a fixed landing gear and twin fins and rudders. Following the German occupation development was stopped.

Praga E-51
Praga E-51 was a very interesting prototype of a modern and progressive solved reconnaissance and light bomber aircraft. First flight of prototype in 1936. The prototype aircraft Prague E-51 was used only for testing, initially in the Czechoslovak Air Force, then in Luftwaffe. Flight tests however showed a lot of shortcomings. Only a single example was built and following the German occupation development was stopped. E-51 is very similar to Fokker G.1

Aero A-304
The Aero A-304 was a Czechoslovakian bomber aircraft that first flew in 1937. It had originally been developed as an airliner, the A-204, but when Aero could not find buyers for the design, it was militarised and successfully marketed to the Czechoslovak Air Force. It was also exported to Bulgaria, where it was known as the "Pelikan".

Aero A-300
The Aero A-300 was a Czechoslovakian bomber aircraft that first flew in 1938 as a much refined development of the A-304 (despite what the numbering would suggest). Despite showing much promise, development and production of the aircraft was interrupted by the outbreak of World War II.

Praga E-45
The Praga E-45 was a single-engined, single-seat biplane fighter built in Czechoslovakia in the mid-1930s. It appeared a little to late to compete with the similar Avia B-534 and failed to get a production order. No more were built and the sole example of the Praga E-45 eventually received a civil registration like OK-ERR.

Aero A-104
The Aero A-104 was a parasol monoplane light bomber and reconnaissance aircraft built in Czechoslovakia during the 1930s. It was the final derivative of the Aero A-100, and was essentially an Aero Ab-101 with an enclosed cockpit and without the lower wing. Although two different prototypes flew in 1937, it was not mass produced.
