This is a WIP of my Dekabrist class, based on original builders plans and random photos I found. Still needs a bit more detailing I think, and I need to get a Russian gun to replace the current British one. This one is to represent D-5 Spartakovets (Спартаковец) but currently has no pennant number.

It looks like a good start, however I think you saved it as a JPEG. You need to save as a PNG otherwise the drawing comes out blurry. 8-)

It is a .PNG, I'm trying to fix that.

EDIT

still no luck, any suggestions?

Well whatever you did fixed it.Looks good to me, I always thought subs were the hardest ships/ boats to draw. ;)

Good start, it's half way there. :)
A few things, though. Shading should follow the contour of the hull, not go straight across it, and you could use a bit of shading (maybe 1px.) along the top side of the hull, to better show off the hull form. The TT's and the forward dive plane should be drawn in black, and the line that shows the shaping of the bow should be in a darker shade, to show the contour of the area. The doors should be outlined in black, and the prop and machine gun could use some work, you could probably swipe one from this thread, (DP posted some similar subs on page 5), which you can also use to an idea of the "style", as Bombhead said, subs can be pretty difficult, but once you get it down, it's relatively easy. :)

It's a nice start indeed. :)
My only doubts - besides those already mentioned - are about portholes on the sail (SB practice shows that they aren't always necessarily shown exactly to the scale) and periscopes (double black lines :( ).

A good start, and an interesting choice too. Raxar and eswube have covered the main improvements required, but subs are tricky to draw.

the reason the image was jpegged (and it still is, to some extent) is because you are using photobucket, bullfrog. photobucket recently changed the way it is build up and is since then unusable for use for shipbucket images. I recommend looking for another image host (on which other members then me most likely can help better)

Thanks for all the advice, I've tried to use all of it.
Not sure if the line shaping the bow is dark enough but this is what looked best. Edited the prop slightly and stole an MG from one of DP's boats. The British main gun looks close enough so I was going to leave it.

@acelanceloet
That explains a lot, I'll look into it.

Mmm... B-24 actually has been drawn and existing even (thougth little bit too "thick" version) in the older sheets, as well as in the ships it was fielded that allready were in the archive.
here is the latest version of it:

Neverever get into "a british gun that looks close enoug" mode ;) it leads to fail.

Otherwise its a good start. I als adjoin suggesting to take look at Darthpanda's submarine drawings to catch the idea behind shading and shaddowing submarines...
