I'd like to just nail down the Mk.51 once and for all. The drawing I did last year about this time is pretty good but I'm not convinced it's 100% accurate - I'm looking primarily for measurements and side views. Have searched the HNSA website and can't seem to find that area.

Thanks in advance.

I'm also looking for references on the various searchlights the USN used. I can't find anything on it (maybe my Google fu is weak)....

Here's my new take on the Mk.51. I am slowly being driven insane by this stupid thing. If anyone else wants to take a crack at it - by all means go for it. There are literally NO sources available that show the dimensions of this damn thing, so had to base it off conjectures based on photos and wracking my brain trying to remember how large the one on the USS Texas was when I was there a year ago.

I am not happy with this drawing yet.

Thanks Mike, I had already found each of those during my first few minutes of Google searching. ;)

I am really looking for schematics that list the size of each part. I can't find anything like that for the life of me.

when ever I do that size stuff I often come to recon that if I want to keep it as close to the scale as possible, then I need to just draw its shape as it would appear on that scale, try to figure if any of the details can be drawn in 3-pixel thickness and/or with single railing-shade grey color, and if not, leave them out completely...or alternatively figure out the main details that makes the shape, drawn them exaggerated to the 3-pixel rule and then adjust the size of the thing accordingly. Neither is "perfect" but eather way or another, it would be compromise.

whats your baselinedrawing for the thing? or are you using by "free-hand"?

The baseline drawing was just one of the directors on the Iowa when scaled down to Shipbucket scale. That was where the original came from - which I then modified heavily later on.

There is no good baseline of this director available unfortunately!

I'm just going to go with the new Mk.51 specified above. On measuring it based on some Floating Drydock plans, it's actually a very good match.
