As PortsmouthBill wrote above I worked a little further with HMS Jamaica. She had only minor refits in her lifetime; in the winther 1944-1945 and again in 1955. The most visible was the removing of the X-turret and the moving of the crane to better handle with the boats when she hadn't the need to have an aircraft onboard due the development of better radars. She also gets the type 974 radar and on the stub mast forward the aft funnel an aircraft homing beacon for fighter control (1944-1945 refit).
In 1955 the minor refit gave better electronics and an enclosed "steering house" (I'm not sure what the right word is in english :? ).
For better comparison I repost the 1943 version (no changes compared to the post above) but anyone who knows which purpose the mystique platform behind the aft mast had? It wasn't on her in 1942, and was removed in the 1944 refit. PB and I couldn't find out

P.S. Another funny thing: The 1945 version had fewer portholes in the hull than both the earlier and later versions. I couldn't figure out the reason

Edit: Updated with the below mentioned changes.

Great work Kim.
As for the portholes, the reason is quite simple. In 1943 the portholes were as designed, using peacetime standards. In 1945 the negative effects of too many portholes on ships in combat were a hard leaned lesson, but by 1955 there was no war any more and peace time sailors wanted more air and light (as in better living conditions). During war time the portholes were always closed, especially at night, so as not to give the ship away by the lights coming out of said port holes.
