Voting is hard. I've fitted all these options to my Type 82 drawing for a more realistic comparison to see what look right.

My results are;

1) Heuhen's original barrel, looks like a good compromise when not zoomed in. With the darker grey barrel the external grey pixels should be darkened too, I darked them myself and found an improvement
2) Ace's original barrel, not bad but it looks bland, without zooming in the darker single pixels to mimic the lumpy parts don't show. Perhaps a darker barrel will help in this respect?
3) The third barrel with revised lumps, looks too lumpy and in photos the bumps don't stand out that much
4) The old barrel, looks bad and bump in wrong place and is only a 2 pix thick barrel

So my decision would be to wait for Ace's darker barrel and retry Huehen and Ace's barrels. The turret itself looks great.

of the barrel thicknes, the 4.5 inch is akwardly in the middleground in where the switch to 3 pixels should be made from 2 pixels...If we look the range idiomatically, the rigth way would be two pixels, since its everything from 3-5 inch (with 4.7 inchers having also three pixels) and the three pixel size is from 5-7 inch
so hanging on the barrel thickness shouldn't be called in since the 4.5 caliber allows bending on either way, just what looks best.

I will post a darkened barrel tonight then, marry the turret to the belowdeck parts, and then wait for the final judgement, unless somebody has another opinion?
(on a sidenote, would the 'old' barrel be an option if I put the bumps in the right way, or can I rule that one out completely?)

found some time between classes to fix it. and it actually looks quite nice, but my version might have to be ruled out as the bumbs are now invisible, unless I add a lot more shading which I don't like to do.

also, to my surprise, the 'old style' barrel didn't look too bad at all when fixed to the correct sizes!

I would say the 2 pixel thick barrel does look more realistic to the real gun mount.

Ok I've tried all the new barrels. My deciding vote is for the revised old barrel. It looks the best, more realistic than any of the others. This will be new Mk 8 mount. Once Ace marries it with the belowdeck part I'll add it to the sheet for updating.

I've not yet sorted the Mk VI but will do so, hopefully soon.

Another request Ace, could you do the stealthy modern turret too some time to match this excellent part? ;)

will take a look at it, but as I have no technical drawing of that mount right now it might end up with just the turret you have now joined with the new foot, barrel and belowdeck parts, as I do not wish to redraw parts if I can not be certain that it will be an final version which needs no more reshaping. I have quite good pictures though, and as the internal mount should be the same, I will see what I can do.

on a sidenote, Hood, do you have some references or some work done on the single sea dart launcher, by chance? I am thinking of drawing the early tromp concept with the sea dart, and I will need the single launcher for that, but I only have one drawing from friedmans that shows it.
