First, a change in the MKVI director:

This (I think) reflects the actual type seen from the beam.

Second, a first rework of the multiple 0.5 mount, for general discussion; not, I admit, the best that may be done but still much closer to the actual scale in relation to Shipbucket.
The new one is on the left :)

Bill's explanation of the recess might solve our barrel problem. From my scalings this morning the mount seems to be slightly too big, but unless we can find concrete dimensions I'd be loath to resize based on a couple of resized plans (errors inherent somewhere) or by rule of thumb.

Bill, great work on the quad MGs, I love the combo of impression of detail with corrected size. I think it will work much better, and definitive detail that small isn't going to work anyway so it does the job pretty well.

how much too big, Hood? if it is more then 5-10% my belowdecks are so out of scale that I have to redraw those anyways, so if that is the case I can take the turret as well. as said, from the only nummerical I could find it was 25% too big and if it is that or close to that I object to it being considered 'good' and I should redo it then :P

I have found no dimensional data for the UD Mark VI mount, not even Jane's Weapons Systems could help me.

So it looks like we'll have to eyeball it. I'll make some comparisons between drawings we have and the original base plans and I'll work out a definitive figure, right now based on one drawing its 5 pixels out on height and length (exc. barrel) but I want to test that on several other plans and photo evidence before I commit to any definitive figure.

okay, I am awaiting your final judgment then ;) if it is more then 5% off, you can consider me started on an redraw (or fix) of the entire thing. just give me an size for the turret (with or without barrel) and if needed, I can provide the reference image by pm (I may not share it on the forum).

confirmed with friedmans british destroyers (finally) that the main difference between SPS-01 and type 988 antenna's was the dome over them. thus, I have refitted the type 988 drawing in this thread with the SPS-01 antenna just like I did with SPS-01

good to hear that Hood :P but don't hurry yourself too much on stuff like this ;)

Ace, perhaps you could give the Mk8 GRP dome mount a once-over too some time, that too is an updated Unknown part and although altered since may still be inaccurate (the barrel as always bugged me).
well, I did an try. the size was correct, the size of this new one is correct, but the shape needed some work. the barrel on my drawing no longer shows those extreme bulbs on the barrel (well it shows them, but not like it was) as the way that was drawn was really the only way to draw that way and not make it look ridicoulous. I tried an different solution, redrawn the turret shape and drew the belowdecks.

she should be more correct, but I have to say I am not entirely content with her looks now, I am certain this turret looks better then what I have drawn.

Hmm, I agree the bulbs on the barrel were ugly. The mount doesn't look the same now, I share your concerns, it just doesn't feel right to me. Perhaps another attempt, or a less radical revamp? It's good to know the current one is correctly sized though.

updated the above post with some more options. I now favor the one encircled in green, but I still feel there is something missing....
the drawing is slightly less accurate to the references but looks a lot more like the real thing on pics. I would like opinions though, as this is one of those parts I will not even think about making decisions alone :P
