SS Imperatrix of the Osterreichischer Lloyd, Laid down on 1888 at Trieste
as a Cargo/passenger Liner connecting Trieste with India ports via Suez Canal.
This is the ship as comisioned on 1888...later she received a modernization by abstracting
the three masts to two and the two shafts to one.
The ship run aground on February 1907, due to heavy storm and lost of her position off western Crete island,
shores (Cape Elafonisos) with the loss of 40 lives which do not responce to captains order
to stay on the ship and launch a lifeboat to reach the shore, which capsize driving them to death.
After 15 hours with the help of locals and a gunboat of Russian Imperial Navy the remaining
survivors resqued. The ship later sunk due to rough seas...
My first attempt for a ship of 19th century...it need a lot of work indeed!!!
Please the specialist of this kind of ship to say their opinion & corrections!
