Sent these charts to Gollevainen earlier tonight, and he suggested I post them here so the rest of the staff could take a gander at them. The number beside each avatar corresponds to the number of posts needed to attain that rank. (There is an exception to this rule; as Forum CO, I think it's obvious Golly would be awarded Grand Admiral's rank immediately, and if someone wanted to design a small add-on tab to indicate moderators or staff, that might be nice.) Lemme know what you guys think...should we implement this or no?

Why US ranks - and not Royal Navy, for example (I prefer Nelson's loop over the star :P ), or some totally generic ranks?
Yeah, I know that there are fewer RN ranks than USN, but on the other hand what purpose would such small "steps" serve anyway (well, what purpose whole that idea serves anyway)

probably we could work on SB rank taking inspiration from an already existing set.

BTW I would like to note:
- a full list seems too long for SB purpouses
- the scaling in the rank cannot be based only on the number of posts

--> maybe we could work on a sysstem/mechanism where the main blocks refers to our "old" SB style and the differencies inside are based on the number of posts

Indeed, basing the rank solely on number of posts would be unpractical. I mean, what with Premium/Elite Member status?
I guess it would have to be done in such manner, that higher member status would have to immediately translate into promotion (for example: Premium = commissioned officer, Elite = admiral - or something like that) and not getting Premium/Elite promotion would block getting rank over certain level - otherwise, for example APDAF (with over 1000 posts) would have much higher rank than BB1987 with less than 500 posts. :P
Btw. - what about FD Masters? Assuming that they make mostly land/air drawings, should they get Army/Air Force ranks (or at least Marine Corps ranks)? ;)

Generally I don't think those navy-styled ranks are really needed.

That said, I would like to thank Emperor_Andreas for bringing forward interesting issue and his effort put into presenting it. :)

couldn't we do something based on no of drawings uploaded? or even better, tonnage of drawings (complicated, but this corrects the '10 small ships count for more then one large')

While it could be a fun idea, I'm inclined to agree with Ace(even though this would effectively sink me to rock bottom ;) ). Any such ranking system should reflect how much the members have contributed in drawings, not how many posts they've made... Some people do a lot of posts but don't really contribute, and some only does a post every now and then, but contributes to huge amounts.
If one is to include the size of the ship in the equation, one could simply go with so and so many "points" depending on the template.
