I finally decided to join these forums after too long lurking.

I was inspired by recent DEG challenge to draw ship of my own. Would this be realistic and why do I fail?

This is 3rd flight ship, fitted with Mk 11 GMLS and is designated as Destroyer Escort Guided missile by Sakhalin navy. It is essentially mid 50's design that has gone through many changes and produced for over decade. Original design was armed with WW2 vintage armament wich was gradually replaced with newer systems as they became available. Essentially same hull in different configurations was deployed as Patrol Crafts for Coast Guard, as a Frigate, Corvette and DEG for Navy.

It's meant to be fairly fast, low cost subkiller contraption. These hunt in packs centered around and lead by real destroyer such as Spruance class or Kidd class.

Redone mast, higher decks, moved back to single funnel and moved it a little backwards. Mast must be hardest part of ship to make! :P

my comments:
- try to make the different areas a little less sketchy. you now have large areas of 1.5 decks high around. the same goes for the basic lines, it is all very sketchy and quick done.
- make one base version first, before you start on the others
- take a look in the first post of the DEG challenge, which steps I went through in designing my ship in there
- I think these designs will be quite overweight, or extremely short legged.
- you have fuel in places you don't want it.

also:
- you can never lurk here for too long. the mistake is too short sometimes.

Mk 13 and Mk 32 are probably the only weapons systems shown that would still be fit on a new-built ship by the time LM2500 became available.

It's very much different now. Uncool stuff discarded and so on. Bronstein, Garcia and Brooke classes have been as reference for stuff like what electronics should i use.

What should I do with unused deck space in rear?

That's not what Ace meant. You've got a good start (better than my first one!), and welcome aboard.

I actually meant, that many people jump in when they discover the forums, and then post an drawing and then say 'look how awesome! you can't do that, can you!'
you were actually on the good track, and according to your new drawing, you still are ;) still, the dates of some of the systems don't match up.

Welcome aboard. Apart from the above, my advice would be to provide more asw, as you are emphasising that aspect of the role - so at least ASROC. Hunting with the base line Spruance you're really propositioning an escort against air attack.

Thank you for support guys. I discovered this site originally through NS forums where i got deeply traumatized in some way. Adding either large or many weapons on ship seems like bending physics to me.

However I added Mk 16. That thing might roast ship's bridge big time.

Your illuminator/director needs to be up higher. It's got too much clutter from other parts of the ship where it sits now.
