2012 - President "BHO" relected.
2013 - "BHO" reveals he is Islamic on Letterman. South declares war and kicks US out.
2014 - New York nuked. US surrenders. CAS (Confederate American States) becomes legal nation.
2015 - CAS reverse Pearl Harbors UN and invades Mexico. World War 3 begins...

To fight the UN and Mexicans the CAS designs powerful ships for sea war. Some are from old designs.

Here is the CSS Galveston named after the famous Battle of Galveston.

first of all, welcome to shipbucket.
second, intersting design, but I doubt it all that workable. not the base design, which is CGBL, but the modifications or detail/drawing errors on it (such as the shading, the railing on bulwarks, the positioning of the praerie masker system and the direct copies of some of the burkes parts.
I applaud your use of the latest parts though, and I hope you are open to suggestions from us to improve the design.

Welcome to the shipbucket. As for Your ship... I guess it can be made into workable design, but I see some problems (and I suppose that Members who are more experienced in modern technical stuff, esp. US may see more of them).
First of all - and this one is more "formal" than "technical" - if You have indeed used hull drawn by someone else, You'd have to credit that someone.
Then there are shading issues.
I have reservations about funnel arrangement (too tall - maybe try to shorten superstructures a bit? - it's very top heavy), and I think that the whole 3D radar/aft funnel/SPG radars/Phalanx "grades" could be lowered - I believe Phalanx has practically no deck penetration so You don't need so much space above hangar door to support it, and therefore all the systems above could be located respectively one deck lover then they are, except for the 3D radar.
Positioning of liferafts looks odd, but maybe it's just my impression.
(these are just a first impression issues)

And the backstory... I mean... basic (VERY basic - that South leaves the Union) premise is ok, I suppose, but the way You presented it.

It's traditional to ask before you use someone else's work. In this case I do not approve.

It's a copy of the CGBL design that I really should finish drawing.

They were really planning to do a ship with such weird superstructure/radar/mast arrangement? :? Ooops... my bad.

DaisyDuke - why they should need use just parts of DDG-51 class instead of whole ships, when Ingalls Shipbuilding where they are made is in Pascagoula, Mississippi?
I mean, You can use any set of ships You like for Your AU, but explanation of "urgency" doesn't sound good in these circumstances.

eswube hits the nail. if you want to save on development time and cost, you don't start building an entirely new design. you just keep building burkes.

btw, for that background story, I thought I was the one who had simplified the historical background story to almost impossible amounts..... this is insane!
