Here is my latest drawing, another member of the Merchant fleets, the SS Komarov;

Built in 1916, the SS Komarov was one of a number of moderate sized freighters constructed in the Ugolny shipyards during WW1. They were spartan vessels with little creature comforts designed solely for the function they were designed to serve. After the war, many were modified by their crews and by the Sieran National Line (the national shipping line responsible for all international passenger and freight shipping formed in 1921). New equipment and accommodations were fitted in an attempt to make the vessels more hospitable for their crews.

The vessels of the class retained their peacetime markings during the Second World War until December 8th 1941 saw the Japanese offensive against Pearl Harbour. Despite their peace time relations, Sieran was not aligned with the United States and remained neutral. All merchant vessels were ordered to carry neutrality markings consisting of the nations name and the country flag prominent on the hull sides to distinguish them from standard US shipping. These vessels were to remain in this guise until the events of June 1st, 1942...

Has anybody drawn or got plans for the Tupolev SB-2 bomber? I've got plans for an AU variant of it and I'm curious whether anybody else has already got plans for them. If so I shall wait for that or if not I'll start drawing it myself.

How does an SB-2 with 12Y and Twin Wasp (or Wright Cyclone) power plants (amongst other changes) sound?

Interesting, and certainly doable. The several real variants of the SB-2 were fitted with Soviet copies of the 12Y series engines, and the Shvetsov copies of the Wright engine were also very plentiful.

That's the primary reason why I'm thinking of using those engines as the plane was originally designed and flown (in prototype form) with both the 12Y and Cyclone engines. Production variants had a soviet version of the 12Y fitted which was modified in later variants into almost a new engine.

My thought process behind this is that the Soviets provided Sieran with a few aircraft pre war which Sieranian engineers fitted with American built engines to suit their conditions.

I also plan on doing a full Sieranian produced version which would share only the wing and parts of the fuselage from the original aircraft, having a new nose and aft section, new engines, new tail surfaces, new weapons (in the bomber version) and fittings (civil airliner version).

Well with the forums down I got plenty of actual drawing done and worked on that concept of a Sieran built development of the Tupolev SB. I started out fairly close to the plane but I think now that there's nothing left of it! xD I changed a lot but I'm actually very happy with how they came out.

The idea of these planes also was that they were initially developed as airliners that saw some use as bomber leading up to conflict as they were fast and available. Again, a 12Y and a Movich MSh-190 (A Sieranian engine developed from a Sieranian clone of the Wasp engine that also powered many other aircraft interwar) powered aircraft were built for trials. The radial aircraft was chosen for mass production due to its rugged performance however a number of 12Y powered airframes saw service as high speed mail and passenger planes as they had a higher overall top speed (with some during the war converted into reconnaissance aircraft).

The bomber developments saw a machine gun installed in a swapped, glazed forward nose section and a removable panel in the aft fuselage for a flexible machine gun mount. At the time it was considered not important to have heavier firepower as the bomber was faster than both the Sieranian and Japanese fighters of the period.

I'm still working on the backstory and specifications for this aircraft so I'll update this post as I finalize them.

Also a final note, Korolev was a company made up of teams of differing designers. Many aircraft produced were put into production under the Korolev name though much of the design work was done by other companies. Korolev was one of two Sieranian aircraft manufacturers in the 1930s that operated in this manner (the other being known as SAF, an abbreviation of Sieran Aircraft Factories which owned most of the production and hangar facilities and was responsible for their development).

Prototype airframes of the first production aircraft which undertook performance trials and testing at the two Army Aviation test facilities in west-central Sieran;

Bombers of a squadron based at Talovka airbase near Anadyr during 1937 in the then standard markings of overall drab green with grey undersurfaces and no unit markings beside aircraft tail number in flight. Flight leaders had white bands applied to the aft fuselage;

Airliners of Sieran National Airways, the state-owned and operated airline that primarily connected the many population centres of the interior where rail and sea connections were not available. Some of these aircraft would fly to local international ports such as Anchorage though they were better suited to shorter domestic hops. Seating was for 14 passengers and 3 crew.

Hehe, sadly they don't have eternal bomb racks. They do have an internal bomb bay that occupies what used to be the passenger cabin. Their bomb load is fairly light by contemporary standards but as they weren't designed as bombers it's reasonable enough. I was thinking 500kg of bombs or so max.
