So here is my first attempt at a map. It shows:
Major bases: Singapore, India, Jamaica
Minor bases: Canada, UK, Malta, South Africa, New Zealand.
Thinking about removing SA, considering, though I wouldn't be surprised to see it on a modern map...
Tell me what you think...

Good to have you back.
As for the map, well it's a map, but it is my opinion that making Jamaica as a major base is over doing it. I think that concentrating around Singapore and India, maybe having Madagascar will make your "empire" more cohesive Also I'll suggest having a base in the Persian Gulf or the Horn of Africa.

My main reason for Jamaica is the protection of trade in the Caribbean and the Atlantic. Then India provides Indian ocean, and Singapore the Pacific. The minor bases give a little coverage, but also stopping points for company ships on the move.
Persian Gulf would be nice but I find it unlikely, and of limited use compared to a med base which can also cover that area. The Horn is (hopefully) covered by India.

Maybe think about some base in modern day Sierra Leone territory, if you want to control Atlantic sea routes.

I'd put a base in Aden or Port Suez and Alexandria.

Okay, I think I'm going to move the Maltese base to Port Said (Suez Canal). Only minor though. I think otherwise I dont want to grow too big...

Also, this is my first attempt at a sail/steam ship:

On the right are a different stack set-up I was considering, and a different aft end.
Oh, it's not finished, of course :P Just seeing if I'm on the right track...
Please give me all the crit you can. I'm kind of just throwing what I think looks good at it...

a few things:
- you cannot steer this ship, as the crew cannot see over the bow
- check how rigging works, as this seems.... not to.
- I am a bit puzzled by the hull shape...
- don't forget sheer!

Okay... Thanks :D
1: I have no superstructure yet. i was more pondering the general hull shape and arrangement of masts and stacks.
2: It's not rigged :D Not yet at least. It will be eventually.
3: It is odd isn't it... Is it unworkable?
4: Is there anything wrong with it? It's been a long time since I drew ships, and never of this period :P

1. I meant that mostly.... you need an quarter deck! :P
2. rigging is also the shape of the masts. right now they do not correspond with any working rigging type, hence the comment;)
3. I am now thinking of an steam frigate, but I cannot think of one right now.... but that is what you should search on for an hull shape that certainly works on what you seem to have in mind.
4. do you know what sheer is? if you know, your reply puzzles me.... otherwise, don't be affraid to ask for an explanation :P
