Very less than ideal. There are already a number of much lighter and cheaper aircraft that are more practical from self-built designs to the ubiquitous Cessnas. Plus I don't think you really understand the practical limitations of aircraft; it isn't like a car where you can casually hop into a "runabout" and go where ever you feel like. Even short pleasure flights require a high degree of careful planning.

As for the Optica, nice theory but apparently there've been some operational troubles (the aforementioned crash - apparently these things have a reputation for being crash-prone, plus the fan duct isn't an idea propulsion set-up. It really dates the design back to the 70s and 80s when ducted fans were a big fad). It'd be nice to have something that can fly slower and more efficiently than a typical Cessna, though.

As I understand it there's only been one crash. There does appear to have been problem with cracks developing in the wing roots.
Anyway, APDAF was talking about the Firebird, which would have it's very own set of issues as a runabout.

I think that's what I was thinking of. I knew there was some problem with the aircraft that limited its popularity. Although cracks still wouldn't be it - the only reason why it's a real problem in the first place is because since the manufacturer is so small it's a bit harder to get support (and such an issue is pricey in the first place).
I know, I just didn't want to make a separate post.

Edgley was a pretty unfortunate company all in all. When the police plane crashed they went bankrupt and then when the new company took over the factory burned down.

Eurocopter AS350

Looks generally nice, but I would at least make undercarriage 3 pixels thick.
Oh, and it looks like one part of the tail rotor was on the one side of the tail and one on the other.
