I don't think there are much choice. WeVee really looked that slab-sided; especially in her rebuilt configuration.

:idea: Perhaps using a darker shade of grey for the armor belt and the bottom of the AA sponson may help.

The slab side look is because, y'know, the side of WVa looked rather like a slab.

The only problem I have with the two ships is the outdated parts and the lack of detail to the West Virginia's hull. But they look pretty nice indeed.

The unshielded 40mm mounts on the Wyoming are new as well.
