The "Hesperides" enter today in Cadiz, where officially begin the "Project Malaspina" the next day 15. For seven months, nautical sail 30,000 miles around the world, visiting ports of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Cape Town (South Africa), Perth and Sydney (Australia), Auckland (New Zealand), Honolulu (Hawaii) and Cartagena de Indias (Colombia).
Along with the ship's Navy, which will remain on board during the entire circumnavigation, work up a total of 400 researchers framed in 27 working groups that will be relieving in every port.
The "Hesperides" is the only Spanish ship designed to carry out multidisciplinary scientific research in seas and oceans, which will allow the proper development of scientific research provided.
The Navy brings to this project its vast experience in offshore sailing, their ability to stay at sea for extended periods and logistical support anywhere in the world.
In the research project 'Circumnavigation Malaspina Expedition 2010' involved, as well as the Spanish Armada by the 'Hesperides' and the Royal Observatory of San Fernando, the Center for Scientific Research (CSIC) under the Ministry of Science and Innovation the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO), 16 national and international universities.
