Not a new drawing but I just realised I've never posted this into this thread. Is not any scale here but it is of one of the variants of the PF-32 interceptor, in this instance the inline engined variant.



I have the radial variant drawn to SB scale already which you guys will have seen on Sierans carriers as well as a floatplane adaptation for ship borne use.
One of these days I'll get around to doing these drawings of both the TB-31 and this in unit markings and the camouflage they wear.

I like it, reminds me of the Sea Hurricane but with a different engine.

For me rather mix of He-112 prototype with Yak-1. Anyway, very interesting. I just don't like the vertical stabilizer and rudder - I'd put the axis of rudder in one line with the tip.

It's actually a hybrid of the He-112 (in my opinion a great plane that sadly lost out), the Yak 1, the Hurricane and the D-520. I went with the inverted V12 to give it a different character to the otherwise similar to hurricane profile.

They're supposed to be relatively sturdy planes with mixed plywood, fabric and aluminum construction and a tad underpowered at this variant. Their armament (other than the 20mm) of two .303 machine guns in the wings was also quite weak even by 1938 standards when this variant entered service.

The canopy behind the seat by the way is like the cutouts on the P-40 intended to give better rearward vision, it's also where the radio is mounted.

Very nifty little aircraft, and when looked at I could recognize a variety of sources. The air intake under the engine looks a little too large IMHO, but all in all a very good looking aircraft.

Thanks. Yeah the intake was again in part inspired by the P-40. It houses the oil coolers and radiators as well as the intakes.

That intake is one of the reasons I thought of He-112.

It pretty much is an identical copy of the He-112s intake though the engine cowling is a hybrid of that and the Me-109

Rhade has been working with me to create FD scale drawings of the Kovolev TB-31 light bomber which has many versions and been adapted for naval use as a torpedo and divebomer as well as a scout, a trainer, a target tug and many other roles.



Here we see a modified dedicated scout variant as used by the army aviation branch of the air force. In this version the dorsal turret and indeed all weapons were removed in favor of increased speed to carry out reconnaissance flights. They were fitted for and often carried two external wing tanks to boost their range.



In the early days of the aircrafts design, it was decided to trial the aircraft with the inline engines said by the western countries to give greater performance than the radials which had proved so reliable in sieranian service. As Sieran did not have any powerful engines available, the Hispano-Suzia 12Y and an Allison V-1710.

The American engine outperformed the French engine with its much greater power but the French engine was found to be more reliable and more readily accessible and was accepted by the air force for more trials.
