Mi-2 were supplied to Soviet Union in mass quantities and were ubiquitous, so some of them ended in Polar Aviation.

http://www.polarpost.ru/Polar_Aviation.pdf

(look on page 8)

In that case they could be quite likely painted orange/red and of course with big red stars, so on black-and-white photos they would look bit like in army camo.

EDIT: that's a nice info eswube, Polar Aviation have 7 basic Mi-2 if we know from what year is that Lenin pic we can say if that was one of them or army helo.

Excellent work! I had it as a model many years ago. Was great joy. :)

Basically the Soviets/Russians didn't modernize her at all during almost 40 years of service? That'd explain a lot about them...

Anyway, a sterling drawing, Lazer_One!

Yes, most of the aviation onboard Soviet icebreakers came from the Polar aviation branch of Aeroflot, whit rather stricking high-visibility markings. Of what Ive been observing, only Ka-32 has been other onboard helicopter on hangar capable icebreakers aside the Mi-2, never seen pic of older piston engined Kamovs, and naturally the Big Mi-8 (though visiting the biggest flight decks) seems to have been too crambed for the hangars.

Anyways, I can propably now kindly resign from all by preservations of the remaining ice-breakers I've claimed, since I doupt I can match Lazer's skill and determination in these field, and It would be nice to see more of them ;)

It is the best compliment for my drawings!
Thank you very much!

The next one will be a jump in the first years of '900 ;)

Yeah, Im mostly impressed the way you've managed to present the somewhat curved front of the superstructure that is so charectaristic to Ice breakers of this era...
Of the others, My old Arktikas are propably in need of remodeling or even complete redrawing now that I think of it...
