Colombiamike:

"usefulness" means "having use" or "being good for something". It's a good thing.
"useless" means "has no use" or "is not good for anything". It's a bad thing. I believe this is what you mean in your picture.

Some revisions made.

'A Flotilla' consists of the AAW ships whereas 'B Flotilla' consists of the ASW/Land Attack ships. There are 8 vessels in each group (some still un-built or building) with names allocated for a further two groups to bring the total number in the class to 26.

n.b The ASW ships sacrifice some space within the stern dock for a towable variable depth sonar and associated equipment.

Have had to pretty much reformat my PC in the past week or two. (hooray for USB storage) I am however back with some updates to the Gemstones. Subject to modification. (I've noticed a couple of fuckups on the ASW one)

I'm looking into older ships, namely to expand the time frame of my AU to more than ~10years... So I'm, not dead or anything, I just have nothing to upload as of now, what are people's thoughts on the Dunkerque / Richelieu type ships for placement of the armament.

I like them in that the all armament forward configuration makes magazine protection a simpler affair, and that it leaves the stern available for aircraft for scouting, or later on, the space can go for missiles. You might want to look at the Dominion BC/Kongo Killer in Personal Designs for my idea of a British version, though the French vessels are much more attractive. The tall towers or "Queen Anne's Mansions" should be good for locating radars and directors on later as well, if you are so inclined.

Not been that active of late but I'm still pondering about ships... Been looking into (as SpamBot 454 will know) for some time a light cruiser design. This is by no means finished but is starting to come together as a basic design I think.

---

'D' Class Light Cruiser (1935)
  • HMAtS Destiny (April 1935)
  • HMAtS Defender (March 1936)
  • HMAtS Defiance (June 1936)
  • HMAtS Disdain (September 1937)
Displacement: 8,500tons
Length: 550 Feet
Beam: 60 Feet
Draught: 17 Feet (20 Feet at deep displacement)
Complement: 745

Preliminary armament:

8x or 10x 6"/50
8x 4"/45
2x Quadruple 2pdr 'Pom Pom' (Later replaced with Quad 40mm/60)
6x HMGs (single mounts) (Later complemented with numerous Oerlikon 20mm cannons)
1x Floatplane (later removed for increased AA armament)
---

Best regards, Mark.

It certainly looks feasible, from a brief look; so well done and I'm looking forward to seeing more :)

I also think it is feasible, but I wonder, if you are going for a British oriented armament than maybe also go for a more British look.

Carrying on with Thiel's design but with some modifications, primary mission is no longer dedicated ASW (hooray for modular payloads) I can see a few errors I'll fix later but I thought I should upload it so far (hence lack of proper SB template title atm), any constructive thoughts on it?

I love it! Although I have to admit I have no idea how battleworthy it is but it looks just awesome!
