I'm honestly not sure about that springsharp report as it's missing the sections that indicate whether the vessel could actually work at that size and/or displacement.

Just curious about this.... but why when Redhorse posted this same exact ship, no comments were made, yet when I post it all of a sudden it is the subject of major controversy?

Curious.

I thought the design as a whole was quite excellent, which is why I asked Redhorse if he minded me using it as the basis for one of my own ships.

Never saw the original posting myself. I don't view all that many threads here as I'm usually occupied with other things. That and I typically don't bother looking at threads with modern vessels as I have no interest in them and cant comment as I know nothing about naval warfare once the missile replaced the gun.

Excellent job. I would, however, still move your forward sponson much farther back, angle the flight deck sponson's leading edge so that it'll not be water breaker, but rather smoothly ship the water away, as, when this ship is sailing at full speed, there will be huge amounts of water spray etc. That forward sponson, I'd fair into the flight deck sponson as well. Not least aesthetically it'll look awesome too.
something like this maybe?

It's not really your fault. Since Redhorse's AU was a smaller one I kinda assumed the Austin was mostly a coastal-type battleship, so a smaller 14-inch gun vessel would make sense (it's only got two screws so I assumed somewhere in the 18 knot range). It's not so much the size of the rifles really as so much as the 25 knot speed. Keep in mind that the Queen Elizabeths were among the first battleships to achieve that.

But it's not important enough to really make a huge fuss over. It's still a nice looking ship, and it's a nice looking carrier.

Also, congratulations on 100 posts in your AU :)

Post #101: the fairing of the forward flight deck sponson looks much better now. I would, however, still angle or fair the leading edge of your weapons platform. As it is now, it'll still be subject to a withering, unkind treatment by waves and sprays.

The foul-weather landing assistance radars are not going to work very well looking through a big lattice mast...

They're offset from the mast. I just haven't gotten around to doing the top view of the island yet.
