Thanks Bezo! When making names, (often on the fly before saving) I try to blend Russian, Japanese, English, and German (The first 2 especially) sounds into them.

Yes, but the Väinämöinen had a similar draft, length, and height (albeit a bit lower). Internally her boilers and engines are located as low as possible and are long and low. Even still, crews hated her in bad weather.

Man I hated that! Worked on an ex Asheville-class gunboat used by the EPA. Try spending January off of Boston and February off of Cape May, NJ! I had my own place on deck where I stayed, which was basically when I wasn't sleeping (forget about eating!)!

One job I do _not_ miss, but I've now got a hell of a lot of respect for anybody who did convoy duty during the World Wars...

Yes, the light cruiser force forms the backbone of the navy. However, by 1938, the Kor Class will be retired.

And now for something completely different.
Shortly after the First Russo-Cenet War, the Navy took massive budget cuts. Three of the four surviving Rebellion Class battleships and many of the older monitors were sold for scrap to pay off various debts, and to provide funding for a new class of vessels. These vessels were 14 gun Ketches o'War. For budget reasons, they were pure sailing ships. While inadequate for major conflicts, they provided sufficeint for coastal defense and trade protection.

Hmmm...very interesting and actually quite a nifty little ship. However, I'm a little dubious about two things: Your rudder doesn't look anything you might see in a sloop (which this could be classified as). I'd change the stern post to a more straight one, without a smooth fairing at the keelson. Also, I recall that the British 3rd class cruiser HMS Rover, from about the same period was far less agile and weatherly and also noticeably slower than her siblings because she had a straight stem, like your ship does. She, too, was a steel-built ship, though ship-rigged.

I went for a gaff setup mostly because that's what I know the best, and I just really like gaff rigs. They're simple, put up alot of sail, and allow for the best angle for going into the wind. (Plus, I wouldn't want to be up on the yardarm reefing the sail in the Northern Pacific.)
