Remember about side floats (retractable, on wingtips, for example), plus the engine looks bit thin.

Not that kind. Like the ones on the big flying boats, only small and retractable. This type of sponson: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... lipper.jpg. Engines has been made thicker.

I'm not sure if that's a good idea, but I don't see the sponsons either.

They have some + on larger flying boats, extra lift ect. But that will not work on such small plane, you just don't need that.
