the quiet before the storm.
Let's hope not. I have some updates to post, and announcements to make. But first:
Announcement:
About this whole mess. As Gollevainen pointed out earlier, it's very bad form to redraw a ship without consulting the original artist. Normally, you point out the mistakes to the original artist, and let him work on it. This prevents a lot of needless work.
Now, I rejoined the forum just as Mitch posted his first,
very early WIP. And I voiced my objections. There was no need to go over all the work again. Contary to my wishes, and against common courtesy, Mitch continued with his work anyway. Cue the drawing war that this thread became.
Did the drawing become better? Yes. Was it worth the aggro? No. I'd like to apologise to the Mods. It takes two to tango, and I was partially to blame for their aggravation.
In posting these drawings, I think that they are the best that is to be done with the material available. Heck, the lining on the hull might be overdoing it. However, these are my drawings, evolutions of the original as still on the shipbucket homepage. I'm asking everyone, including Mitch (And I'll see to it that this reaches him) that IF you have any corrections, point them out to me, or at least make them on these drawings. I'm willing and able to defend my choises on these, and (as ace found out when I threw a shitstorm about the APAR) am utterly confident in my sizings and shaping of the ship. Please do not use any other drawings to make corrections on/for. The last thing this board needs is more useless rework of another guys work.
Thus spoke the original artist.
Edit: Have I never done this? Actually, I have. Once by simply not looking closely enough, and once because I had no idea who the original artist was. The first was the Victoria SSK, by Darth Panda. I looked under Great Britain for the Upholder SSK, and didn't find it there. Frantic drawing ensued, and it came out perfectly. Imagine my surprise when it turned out that DP had put the ship under Canada as the Victoria class SSK... He was gallant about it, and we reached an agreement on which one was better
The next one was another sub, by TODG, it was the (closely related) Zwaardvis and Walrus class. I couldn't contact the artist. Never heard of the name either, and since the originals had very little relation to the real shape of the boats I just redrew em. Color me surprised that it was E2R who had done the originals. He wasn't much pleased, and rightly so.
