LOL, I don't know how it works in the Army, but in the Marine Corps we used to say the only piece of equipment 2nd Lts were qualified to operate was a chem-light... because you have to break it for it to work. But there are decent 2nd Looies out there.

And yes, all warrants are crazy. Mainly because they've spent WAY too much time in the military. :P

It isn't a searchlight, but Type 984 radar,and the ship concerned is the destroyer-cruiser study made by Hood.
At least one of the studies carried this radar
