Project 68Bis

The lurker comment wasen't focused on you but generally descriping certain type of behaviour which bugs me quite a bit so don't be so softskinned.

Regardless like I tried to explain to you that I try to follow the soviet practise of naming and labeling their ships as far as possiple in the shipbucket rules. Zhdanov and Admiral Seyavin were given own project numbers thus IMO they deserves to be called as their own subclass. If their designation would have remained Project 68Bis, then the labeling would be approphiate to do as I expect you are suggesting in the lines of:

Soviet Union, Project 68Bis 'Sverldov' class
Zhdanov after rebuilt
(Gollevainen)

But as there is the own project number, thus I labeled them as I did. You are letting the western categhorical style getting better of you when it's clearly the way from which I want to break away regarding Soviet and Russian ships.

If NATO would have given those ships their own new codename like 'Sverldov-Mod' or similar, then the situation would be bit different and I would have most likely mentioned it. But they never did.

'Modified Sverdlov class' or simple 'Sverdlov Class' was common during the Cold War, often with no reference to the Project number at all, in books and articles. Golly is right in that the Soviet system was rather different and more complex than the journalistic works written during the 70s and 80s when classes were only referred to be thier NATO names. Zhandov and Adm. Sanyavin were single conversions of the base ship but were modified from the baseline standard. That is why Soviet project numbers were defined by additional numbers and letters, as were all Soviet military articles.
Therefore I back Golly's judgement here, we all know they are Sverdlov's underneath but its best to be accurate rather than just adding generic labels from twenty years ago.
Also I've seen single ships referred to as a "class" so I see no problem there, as Golly says that's been a feature of SB since the year dot.

Another superb drawing from Golly.It's a shame he can't devote more of his time to drawing instead of spending most of his time sorting out all the unpleasant stuff.
