uhm....
don't know if it is mentioned before, but may I suggest you start with an real ship first? I mean this ship again fits in the category 'only floats upside down', (in which my ships first fitted as well, no worries) and you seem to be of good spirit to improve.

an real ship learns you about the basic dimensions, shapes and systems of at least one ship or ship class, on which you can expand your knowledge to other types of ships, systems and time era's.

Ace is correct. The viable ships in AU (and own designs) are from members who have 'cut their teeth' on real designs. Working first on a real design teaches the discipline - its that simple :)

Again, that's a progress, but You didn't think it through.
Acelanceloet's suggestion to draw some historical ships first is good one (I've suggested You the same earlier).

Total lenght is now ok, so is the height of the hull above the waterline (but You could perhaps add a bit below the waterline - there must be place for both one deck and a keel etc.
And now You have too big bow overhang (it's a ship, not a space rocket ;) ). Also the superstructures don't look like a modern warship.
Look closely on those linked destroyers - they have almost no portholes (windows)!

Modern destroyer would look probably rather like that:

(again, it's just a rough generic sketch)

Again, think about drawing something real first. ;)

Eswube and acelanceloet, perhaps you two right. Maybe I must start from drawing the real ship, not fictional.

Maybe I can start from very simple ship, like this:

you could do that, but the best is to start with an corvette/frigate sized ship or an cargo ship. fact is, those small boats are very hard to draw because evvery pixel has to be right in this scale :P
also, it works best to draw an ship similar to the ones you want to design yourself, so you get experience that is actually related ;)

Aha, I got that :D

Perhaps I can start by drawing a medium sized civillian ship like ferry. Since my childhood I have a travelling experience with ferry :P

So, this thread can be closed?

I would start with a small ferry vessel. Once done with that try a gunboat to try out weapons, then try a frigate and keep getting bigger. Then you will understand to know how to make a sea worthy ship.

cruel2BEkind, NO. that was the way we adviced some time ago, but in fact small ships are harder then the small ones for the reasons I described above. so, an corvette/frigate sized ship or medium cargo ship is the best start IMO

Whatever ship You choose to draw - have a good fun with drawing it and good luck! :)
By the way - no need to administratively "close" this thread. It will simply cease to be used.

Well, if You say so... :ugeek:
;)
I can agree, though, that some things about drawing them are different.

I say this because.... well.....
http://www.shipbucket.com/images.php?di ... 80Mahu.png
http://www.shipbucket.com/Real%20Design ... n-Mahu.png
these 2 drawings depict the same ship. the first one was done in my first months on the bucket, the second one after about 1.5 year here. you can see the difference. while the level of detail I had on the first one would have been ok on larger ships (for example this one, done about a month after the first mahu http://www.shipbucket.com/Never%20Built ... 030000.png) on that small minesweeper it just looks wrong....... hence why small ships require an entirely different view into them to get them look right AND look good.
