Shipbucket

They are two diffrent kind of ships. The original is beautiful and swift, a true "l'belle epoque" warship.

The rebuild is modern, slight brutal but still has the lines. She is more of a heavy patrolboat than a cruiser. A ship which you call on on when you are in trouble.

While your remade versions are generally good-looking, I'm still very much bothered by the dull color choice of yours, making the images almost look "dirty" (smutsiga) and bland. How about refreshed those color choices of yours? And I can not say that I'm a fan of all your wild streaks manifest on the hull; they further contribute in making the images look confusing and overwrought somehow. The white on the "Swan of the Baltic" can certainly need some tidying up.

Well, I've always used the same reference for my colors - the drawings of Gösta Kaudern in the books "Kryssare" & "Jagare". I know it is bit darker than average but I complies good with the few color photos avalible of the era. I want to make my pictures like the watercolor/ ink technical drawings of late 19th/ early 20th century.

The darker tone also makes more life in the picture

The most interesting color discussion I think should be around the Halland - she is way to grey/ whiteish than IRL, her colortone should be more of bluegreygreen. I have same good pics of her sister Småland in Gothenburg.

Having seen and worked on many of the modern warships IRL here they are abit darker when you see the IRL than pictured here aswell.

I have all those relevant books, about the armored ships, cruisers, destroyers and subs. The only one I missed out on, before moving to the US, is the concluding book about icebreakers. But, Psilander, I think you're approach is wrong, in that Gösta Kaudern's water color prints are not really suitable as a template for SB. Also, I have plenty of IRL experience with all kinds of warships, and I've been on the HMS Småland, so I know how she looks like. I still maintain my previously expressed opinion, but, since you did oblige me most kindly with an exhaustive explanation of your color scheme philosophy, I shall say no more. It suffices to conclude that we may agree to disagree.

Just to remind us all. Psilander follows his own style, which is not Shipbucket standard. This was agreed in the past on the old Forum. We respect his right to 'plow his own furrow'; but if anyone else tries to copy him (or invents their own style) we'll make them walk the plank

PB, I'm fully aware of that. That's not the issue. Of different styles I could not care less; have him follow his own, for all he cares. No my point of contention was that I don't think the final renditions really look clean, with spurious traces of lighter or darker shades everywhere where I just know no photographic evidence would justify it. But, again, it's my contention. If I have to clean the drawings up, that is, those I archive for myself, then that's my choice.

That is his style; not Shipbucket standard, so sure, make your own version for yourself, no problem

I believe this is what Colo refers to as "elan."
