During the first Westpac I made on the Long Beach in 1974-75 the Kynda Admiral Fokin and the Sverdlov Admiral Senyavin were our "shadows" most of the time in the Indian Ocean. I remember the Senyavin was a pretty ship even with the command modifications and that the Fokin was as ugly as boiled sin. On the other hand, our SSM capability was shooting Talos so I would not have wanted to get in a missile fight with her. We were in a task force with Enterprise and Truxtun. The biggest problem the Russian had was keeping up with nuclear powered ships for any length of time. Plus, they still used dead-stop stern refeuling. That changed a year later and they were much better at it with properly designed replenishment ships.

they were esentially testing and prototype platforms for the flagship concepts that emerged from the Okean exersices in the early 70's and ultimated onboard Pr.1144 and 1143 as flagships for various type of operational fleet concepts and complements.

Golly, these are all nice, except for one trifle thing: if there's only one unit in a certain configuration, why do you persist in calling it a class, such as "PR.68U-2 Admiral Senyavin-Class"? Every literature that I've read on these ships treats it as one class, but with modified subunits.

Last 6 years ive been drawing SB stuff, I've always called everything as class, be them 156 strong boat class or just single unit. Its a vessel of its class, be them sole presentative of it or not. I've have no idea why MConrads before me done it that way, Propably becouse most naval publications list all warship classes as class, despite the class strength... or he just wanted to give the pedant nitpickers something concentrate on. There are bunch of lurkers in this forum who tend to have taken habbit to post solely on critisising indifferent aspects of these drawings, and it would be awfull if they wouldn't have anything to say, wouldn't it :roll:

Anyways, more seriously:

As for Pr.68U-1 and Pr.68U-2, there's no burden to grasp the concept of single ship class idea, since in Soviet practice, classes of ships were always destinated with rather detailed project number system, and if the ship varied considerably from the standard, it was made own class of ship with different Project Number. both Pr.68U-1 and Pr.68U-2 are more closer to their actuall mother class than they are towards each others. Therefore it would be simply false to try to catechorise them under same class between themselves, and more apparently so to be listed under regular Pr.68bis class since the differences are quite idionymic.

Well, I don't agree with your explanation, Golly. I think it's quite irrelevant, since it's still Sverdlov-class. Also, I really appreciate being called a lurker. FYI, I've moved out to the country, so I've been relegated to solely use either a laptop, an ipad or, in this case, my windows phone. But, since you seem to regard my input so little I shall not bother to comment on any of your threads anymore. And, also, your comment, tucked in as a subordinate clause, is indicative of the lofty air of those in charge ( with a few notable exceptions). It takes considerable gall for a twenty- something boy to try to upbraid someone more than twice his age!
