Todays upload is with special dedication for WhyMe, both for kind words and for his drawing of Wróbel 23mm AAA gun.
Below is patrol craft of the Project 918 (NATO code: Pilica). Five of these ships entered service in the Polish Coast Guard between 1973 and 1976.
At that point the production order was switched to an improved (and quite succesful) design: 918M submarine chaser, eleven of which were built between 1976 and 1983.
Initially all of these vessels served in the Coast Guard, but after the reorganization of Polish defence/security establishment after the fall of "communism", submarine chasers ended in the Navy. "918"s served until 2011 (although first of them were decommissioned already in 1999), while the Navy's "918M"s left active service between 2005 and 2006.
By the way - throughout this thread I'm casually using terms "Navy" and "Coast Guard" like if they were totally different and separate entities. In reality, their mutual relation was more complicated. Perhaps I will elaborate more on it sometime later.
