In this thread, I blunder about attempting to design something that simultaneously vaguely resembles a cathedral and a modern sea control ship.

Thus far, it's not going very well.

- version 0.1

I do feel pretty good about my rendition of the Imperial Navy Valkyrie, if nothing else. I'm most likely going to redo it from scratch.

Also, I traced the stern of somebody's LCS design for this image, but I can't remember whose it was or I'd have credited them. That was just for hashing out the general shape here though, I don't plan on keeping it.

EDIT: linked the image because it broke the page formatting.

Too small ... of course if we think in W40k scale.

while an interesting idea..... it doesn't work that well to mix an cathedral and an warship.

cathedrals are high, large windows, and are very open in construction
warships tend to be low (they are only high for the radars and directors, to give them an good view, hence why all is mostly centralised) as few windows as possible, and have an framework construction, with as much strenght as can be crammed around the needed space.

so, you cannot effectively compare the construction of those 2 things. you could use similar shapes and details though.........

Well, as Rhade said, too small for a typical 40k ship. One would also like to see at least a pair of gatling blasters(for non40k-fans; a ridicously large gatling gun which, if I remember correctly, fires 6" shells at a ROF of about 150 RPM)! ;)
The Valkyrie and the quad-mount las-cannons are superb though.

Yeah, that's the intent.

As for the size, this is just a 5-6 kt destroyer emphasizing ASuW and atmospheric air defence capabilities. I plan on also doing a 100-150 kt carrier (possibly submersible), a battleship (I expect it will probably be about the same scale as the Objective Global Warship) with anti-orbital capabilities, and a 10-15 kt cruiser emphasizing atmospheric air defence and interception. Probably some other things as I think of them.

Also, those are Hydra turrets with quad Hydra autocannons, and the forward turret is going to mount an Earthshaker cannon, or possibly something heavier like a volcano cannon or set of turbolasers.

That said, considering that this Charybdis is easily several times the mass of a Warhound titan, and that said titan mounts a pair of weapons that size, it should probably have more of them or a larger variation on one of them.

It will definitely have void shield generators, in any event. I just haven't drawn them yet.

You don't need to worry about braking the page formatting.

EDIT: This ship will not several times the mass of a Warhound titan (maybe twice the mass or so) you have forgotten about how big they are.

Well, Warhammer 40k wikia seems to think they stand 14 m tall and mass 410 t, which would imply that a Charybdis would would be 12.2-14.6 times more massive.

Unless I'm mistaken in conflating displacement with mass...

Please don't compare God Machine of Adeptus Titanicus with some ship. ;) In W40K everything is "Go big or go home", for sea ships ... I think there is only one "good" description of massive warship of the Imperium, great Argo Nauticals battleship/aircraft carrier from Flesh and Iron by Henry Zou. Almost everything from Adeptus Mechanicus is big, heavy and have a lots of guns.

I'll have to look into that. In the mean time, however, a carrier needs escorts.

More of the Valkyrie. I had to make up the torpedo for it. Uses a melta charge. I'm not really sure what a proper air-deployed sonar buoy would look like so I haven't done that yet.

From top to bottom, the weapons at the top right are the rockets employed in the multiple rocket pod, a Hellstrike missile, and my made-up Seastrike torpedo, of which it carries two.
