Shipbucket

This is the Norwegian guard vessel "KNM Pol III." Originally built as a whaling ship in 1926. The ship was requisitioned by the navy in 1939 at the outbreak of World War II. She was armed with one 76mm gun and two machine guns. The ship disovered the German invasion fleet around 23:00 8.May. She fired a warning shot, seeing that the ships did not stop she launched flares that were recieved and therefore alarming the Norwegian military of the German invasion. The German MTB "Albatros" came to engage Pol III. Pol III rammed the Albatross. Albatross in turn fired her AA guns that mortally wounded Pol IIIs captain. The ship was on fire and soon abandoned. Towed back to Norway the following day. She was captured and spent the rest of the war as a German patrol boat in Bodø. After the war she was converted to a fishing boat and was lengthened by 4.8 meters under the name Johan E.. In the 70s` she was converted to a fish transport vessel with the name of Odd Oscar and Fisktrans. Renamed Arnøytrans (after the island I live on, Arnøy) in 1999. She would continue with that name up until 2011 when she was sold for scrap.


The photos I used as referance were of bad quality. Therefore I might have missed and/or done details completely wrong. Also missing from any photos is the underwater hull. That I based on other whaling boats of that time period.

I might be wrong, but or you got the horizontal scaling different then the vertical, or the pictures are wrongly scaled, or the dimensions between freeboard and length are way off.....

I missed the draught with about 0,3 meters so that is practicly correct. The perpendicular length is also correct. There is a possibility that the freeboard is a little high.

A simple yes or no would have been enough.

I scaled her to that measurement. The perpendicular lenght is 111 feet, or roughly 33,8 meters.

Judging by the huehen's references, 111 feet is the length between perpendiculars, i.e. between the rudder shaft and the bow at the waterline level. In ShipBucket scale 111 feet is 222 pixels. Now do the math
