Looking at the hull of this ship is wierd looking.
Can someone explain how this shape of hull works or the benifets of a hull shaped so?

The idea is that it would be stealthier and that it would pierce through waves with the idea of being more stable (see X-Bow). Other members will tell you with better authority why the theory doesn't work so well in practice.

You end up taking a lot of water over the bow, and that does damage to everything forward of the superstructure (which ends up being the thing stopping the water). All of that energy tends to be liable to rip things off of the deck, and ruin anything it doesn't remove. It then plows into the superstructure where it has to be dissipated - and that means a strong and heavy structure.

Which of course means guns (keeping in mind that most gun housings are fiberglass nowadays), open hatches, and of course people (who you can pretty much write off as being dead and open yourself up to some hefty lawsuits). Basically, anything that isn't superstructure can be written off.

In small seas I'm sure it's okay. Punching through 20 or 30 foot swells things get ugly. adding an effective breakwater could compromise the intended stealth of the vessel, also (that's a scientific wild a** guesstimation on my part)

Looking at the Zumwalt class destroyer, wiki said the term is Tumblehome hull. Wiki states that instead of going over the waves it can pierce through them. And like you guys said it would be hard to have a ship in this case. Waves going over the bow hitting the structures and equiptment can make problems. Its an interesting design and i might paint up a few quick designs.

the name for the bow is actually wave piercing bow. the tumblehome describes the rest of the ship..... let me get back to you on that when I have more time.
