OK, Quick post and a temporary Sticky - I need everyone who submitted a design to post a mission statement for each drawing. I am working with my fellow judges to get this done, but I've had that requested and I think it's a good request.

The Murrumbidgee Class Frigate was designed primarily to provide a deep water ASW capability for Australia and her sovereign waters against sub-surface threats from South-East Asian Countries.

They were also designed to be tasked to provide ASW support to ANZUS and other coalition maritime forces both in the immediate region and deployed elsewhere in the globe. If required they were also able to undertake border patrol duties, fisheries patrol duties, battlegroup escort duties as well as junior officer training. A limited capabilty of gunfire support and anti-air defence is also available.

Their systems are compatible with USN and RN systems and can embark up to Sea King sized helicopters for OTHT and ASW duties. Their primary ASW systems are Ikara, SVTT and Sea King ASW helicopter.

Redrawing my entire AU after a long absence from Shipbucket

I somewhat stated this in the first post, but ok, here comes a larger description:

the ships would take over the role of (some of) the spruances, as these would be converted from ASW destroyers to multirole destroyers. the entire concept was based to cover large amounts of ocean with as few ships as possible. for this, the ships had their near unlimited patrol range and the 2 large helicopters.
due to the high cost ASW and propulsion systems, the non-asw systems are build as simple as possible. due to this, the air defence is purely self defence and the ASuW is merely an extension of the ASW systems.

the major limitation in the design though, is the sonar. due to weight penalties of the engine and the cost, I have chosen the SQS-56 instead of an heavier system. this limits the sonar range but that problem is limited when the sea kings are in the air with their own sonars. still, considering the fact that the design is build in a way that you can operate alone for a long time, makes this an limitation.

Designed primarily to counter Soviet submarines operating around South East Asia that were expected to blockade major trading routes in the event of war. Secondary roles include acting as anti-submarine escorts for the aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne and her replacement, maritime interdiction and supporting patrol boat operations - particularly within the Indonesian archipelago.

With close-in weapons systems included in the design due to the lessons learnt in the Falklands war, it features a 5 inch gun for both anti-ship and shore bombardment, Harpoon missiles to counter Soviet surface vessels, two Lynx helicopters for both anti-submarine work and OTHT, and a self-defence anti-aircraft capability.

The Felicity Class Frigate was designed to provide ASW capability for the San Andreas Navy and a limited AAW capability. These ships are designed to replace the US-Supplied Allen M. Sumner and Gearing Class in the late 1970s. Due to weight and cost limitations, AN/SQS-56 is chosen to be the Sonar system instead of AN/SQS-53. To resolve the issue of poor performance provided by AN/SQS-56 in deep waters, the AN/SQR-19 TACTAS is chosen to be the towed sonar.

Although the ships are are designed to operate two SH-2F ASW Helicopters, but they are actually capable of operating two SH-60 or one SH-3. Though the main aim of the ship is to hunt Warsaw Pact Submarines, the ship does have limited Anti Air and Anti Surface capabilities provided by NSSM, Phalanx CIWS and Oto Melara 76mm/62 gun respectively. In war, the Felicity Class usually operates in a team of two or four, whereas the AAW Cover will be provided by the Fiona Class FFG which is a deviated version of the Felicity Class.

The Submarine Hunter Frigate(SH-frigate) is designed to escort (merchant) ships through the Atlantic during conflict with the USSR. In case of the detection of a submarine the SH-frigate will hunt the sub down and chase it mostly in pacts of two hunter frigate’s and the Lynx helicopters when boxed in they will destroy the sub with her mortars and/or torpedoes.

The ships performance propulsion systems are needed to chase any submarine in flee.
The ships additional weaponery are for self defense and escort tasks.

She could be compared ww2 Destroyer Escorts but with a modern twist.

My design is for a ASW frigate which relies on its two embarked helicopters for a long range submarine hunting. For that purpose the ship has a long range sonar plus VDS, and for shorter range work it has Ikara ASW missile and the usual two triple 12.75" ASW torpedo tubes. Other weapon systems are for self defense with short range AA missiles (Sea Wolf) and the 4.5" gun in Mk.8 mounting.
The ship is designed to operate within a task force, and relies heavily on the task force's other ships for long range enemy aircraft detection, or area air defense.
The ship is propelled by Diesel engines coupled to electric motors for quiet running while hunting submarines



BTW the ship design is from the earlier part of this design study, that is 1975 (much like the real life Type 22 frigate)

These frigate was designed by a Naval shipyard during a contest for building a naval ship for a country. There was designed three standard design some they offered to several country. They was designed as Optimality as a ASW escort but on of the version was designed with better ASuW capacity then they tho other. Extra hull size compared to frigate with same mission task like the Oslo class, was going to better the ship speed and crew comfort but also to the ship endurance with the increased magazine and food/fuel capacity.

The design was sold to several country, where this ship was used from the flagship of a Navy to fleet escort. some of them was designed in to a submarine hunter/killer fleet.
