Why Me
I really do like the Vouga Class DD I remembered that I had a very nice shot of the Dao D331 coming into Portsmouth June 1954 that shows the modifications made to the class after WW2 shows British Power operated 2 Pdrs fitted on the fwd edge of the aft gun deck but because of the angle I cant see what’s between the funnels or if anything’s fitted in place of the Fwd TT
Here a link to the Photo

Do you have any info on the squid conversion done about 1957 from the one photo I have seems like they had a twin 40mm offset to port on the after gun deck ?

Graham

Wow, graham, thank you very much for the photograph! I was struggling with the post-war conversion because of lack of good quality images so yours is of huge help.
As for the later conversion, the information is scarce. All I know is the armament: 2x120mm guns, 1 Squid (in place of the B turret), 1 twin and 3 single 40mm, 3x20mm, 1 set of TT and 2 DC racks. My guess is the twin 40mm replaced the X turret and one of the single 40mm replaced the forward TT but I cannot tell for sure.

I had a look throught some of old Janes and have come across some more info on the Vouga DD class conversions found a nice broadside view of Duo after she had her Squid ASW upgrade it shows quite clearly the layout, there a single 40mm in the fwd TT space 2 single 40mm at the fwd end of the after gundeck and a twin 40mm and director in ther place of Y gun, there is is no sign of the large radar on the bridge in the other photo(undated) that I posted early
I believe that these ships configuration change quite a bit about this period
The pages from Janes are here
