The Japanese Ferry Nishiki Maru ...Laid down at 1974 ....middle '80s renamed as Orion and served in Japan routes until 1990.
[ img ]
Then purchased by Minoan Lines renamed Daedalus and after an extensive reconstruction transformed to a luxury cruise Ferry and served in Italian and Greek routes routes!...sold at 2006 to Adriatica Ferries renamed as Riviera Adriatika and still serve to Albania-Italian routes!
This beautiful Lady was my first ship...i serve as Deck Cadet back on 2003!!!

Beautiful work Navarchos. Seems that the have unusual confidence in their ferries - she doesn't appear to have lifesaving boats apart from a small number of inflatable rafts :). I'm guessing that the Nishiki Maru was a RO-RO ferry for trucks carrying only the crew and truck drivers?

The Japanese Ferries have a different design philosophy...The ships are contracted mainly as Car Carriers ( so u can see enormous ramps aft , sides and forward and big garages) and secondary for passenger transportation!
A classic Japanese ferry of this era can carry more than 70 trucks and 200 cars ...but only a few number of passengers ..about 300-500! As for the Lifeboats the Japanese till today does not install Lifeboats on their Ferries...they put just Life rafts...sorry i do not know the reason!

Thank you for this Navarchos. I like your drawings very much, and hope to see more.

I'd like to see the Japanese passenger liners Asama Maru and Kamakura Maru on here...I just don't have the patience to draw something that large. Got plenty of photos and drawings, though.
