Now that we`re talking about Paradox Interactive and geeky. Personally, I love Hearts of Iron II: Armageddon. It lets you play as 175 countries from 1936 to 1964. You take control of production, development, diplomacy, intelligence, military units such as an infantry division down to a single ship, this only applies to light cruiser and bigger. The rest are flotillas. You play on a world map divided into provinces. Each province has rescources, industrial capacity and population. The figures from each province is combined into the figures for the entire nation. There are many historical events and several alternate history events such as the surrender of Britain in WWII.
I have here some pictures of my current process as USA.
This here is the statisitcs of my military. I choose to neglect the air force as it has no real impact, at least not when I play.

Every province marked in dark blue is owned and/or controlled by the USA:

And no I did not invade them just for fun. Everything went west when USSR declared war on Britain in early-mid 41. So when Japan attacked in february 1942. I had to fight Germany, Italy, Japan, China, Portugal, Manchuria, Siam, Soviet Union, Mongolia, Portugal, Spain, Bulgaria, Romania, Hangary, Slovakia and Croatia. All at the same time.
