Ok, maybe I go to far with that. I know that Sweden, Norway or Fins have good winter systems. But I have seen that, MiG-29 of our air force after long winter night on a runway, start engines and take off. F-16 ... when our pilots ask yanks instructors about what happens to Falcon if they will do the same thing. Well, there was words like: madness, insane and sabotage. :D Soviets build things to survive the worst possible conditions and still works and fight.

EDIT:

had another thought, what about a Unified Korean Republic? In the near future the North and South unify under a central government. After a decade or so, their economy grows, etc etc......
Homefront ? :D

Yes, and they built a lot of them because they were inferior to western designs. You can have ruggedness or quality, not both.
Also, I think I'm going to switch over to the idea mentioned in my last post.
Edit: Nonononono, not Homefront, nothing like that. That game was completely ridiculous. Sorry, bad title choice, but it would still be under the control of the South Korean government. It would just be a larger South Korea, basically.
On a side note, Homefronts gameplay sucked to (worst 80 dollars I ever spent)

true. but always keep in mind a few things:
- ships are already build for the worst possible positions, the sea is the common enemy for all.
- comparing an F-16 and an MIG-29 is like comparing an lada and an supercar. one has a lot technical toys and options, but that is a lot more that can get broken. the other is simple, sturdy etc, but when you compare them doing their job they are equal xD

don't get me wrong, I like russian stuff a lot, they do their job with beauty and grace instead of the US stuff, which just does their job most of the time:P
in the russian environment, simple is an good thing..... there is just less that can get broken. (same reason why I like to have older bikes and cars etc)

Aye, you are absolutely right. If we think about nation in siberia there is a very short list of things that will work in that conditions and soviets designs are on top of that list.

Well I see gordo drop that idea, pity I think Golly would be a fine source of info about designs and history. ;)

Aaaaahhhhhh screw it! I'll keep working on it, but I think I'm also going to work on that Korean AU too. I like that idea. As a bonus, I won't have to rewrite history to do it.

this is exactly why I only make mini-AU's or near future ones :P history is intersting, and it is fun designing an line of ships for some alternative nation, but I just don't have the time on my hands to do background stories like golly does :P

With my Sieran AU, it has its origins in an alternate outcome of the Bolshevik uprising in 1905 and the subsequent October Manifesto. In keeping with most of the real world timeline, Sierans equipment is kept as simple as possible as well as small in scale.

Siberia may be rich in raw resources but the climate is appalling for any kind of agriculture, hence keeping your populations fairly low. Sieran relies on importing the majority of its food and its population is just over 1.5 million (which whilst a jump from the real provinces population of c. 500,000 is explained by the increased industry there).
