This is probably going to suck, but I wanted to create an AU based around Siberia. Plenty of resources, wide open space, etc....... The point to this blather is that I really suck with European history before the 20th century. I would like to hear any ideas anyone has about how to improve this concept. I'm sure there will be plenty.

This AU Idea has been erased because it is completely historically inaccurate and it embarrasses me.

Are you even serious? Mid 19th century is way before either Nicholas II or Gulag. It would be nice if you actually learn some real history before creating an AU...

This is a prime example of why you shouldn't try to write an AU at 1:00 AM.

Siberian AU is not a bad idea, but as WhyMe say you need to learn some more history. Look at Sieran AU, this is an example of an independent soviet republic style nation. Think maybe more about end of XX or XXI century, new White and Red russians, civil war ... ect.

Thanks for the idea, and once again, in my defense, I was writing this at 1 in the morning. Also, my pre-20th century European history sucks horribly.

Edit: What I'm trying to do is to make a western style nation in the space that occupies Siberia. To be totally honest, I'm starting to think that might be impossible, given its proximity to the Soviet Union/Russia.

Western style ? ... indeed impossible, in that space only soviet republic or post soviet.

I suppose I could make post soviet work, I just suck at drawing soviet style weapons and systems. I only wanted to make it western so that I could use western systems and ship designs.

Siberia is no place for western designs, they are fragile, complex and hard to maintain. You need soviet weapons and system because only they can work in extreme siberian weather.

uhm....... and western systems on board ... let's say... norwegian ships don't work? and the weapons and ships which are stationed in alaska don't work?

hell, you build stuff for the job, yeah, some systems will not work in that environment, but it makes no sense to generalise like that.

You make a good point. I had another thought, what about a Unified Korean Republic? In the near future the North and South unify under a central government. After a decade or so, their economy grows, etc etc...... It would give me a chance to use some designs I have been working on and the scenarios actually fairly plausible. Please keep in mind I'm just spitballing here.
