The near Loss of HMS Nottingham in a grounding was very embarassing to the RN however in some ways the navy see it as vindicating their damage control training the crew saved the ship using the techniques taught to them in damage control training and put them to use and won

Not to change the subject, but cruiser underwater hulls are now "UN" Blue?

Port Royal is a test ship for a new coating system. Some RN ships have operated with blue bottoms (!) as part of tests (Castle class, for example).

Very much this. The damage, in terms of total water admitted, if not size of hole, was quite significant.

A bit of useless trivia.Between 1945-84 the Royal Navy suffered 98 major incidents of fire,125 collisions( one with London bridge.) and 50 groundings.

In 1946 the RDN had 76 collisions with the Glenten Class MTB alone.
In fact, due to the way MTBs were operated the Torpedo Division managed to tally some 3000 collisions and groundings in the fifty years it existed.
