Interesting story on the BBC today. A 61m shrimp boat washed away in the 2011 Japanese tsunami turns up in US/Canada.

I was just reading about that, it seems they can not find who originally had ownership claims to the vessel, all that is known is that it was sold to be scrapped shortly before the disaster.

I thought in the article is said that they had contacted the owners but that they don't want it back (??) It would be strange if you could absolve yourself of responsibility like that. I'm sure they must have made a claim on the insurance when it vanished.

I had been reading an article posted this morning in my news alerts on my home page.

Still it is so very strange.

The US Coast Guard sank it today (yesterday, now, I guess?)

I'm wondering how easy it was to sink with just an M242 on the CG vessel?

Easy. Open the sea valves and abandon ship.

I don't think that they boarded it... A Canadian vessel came to see if they could salvage it but after they couldn't the USCG vessel continued with what it was going to do and fill the Tsunami boat full of holes.

The Cutter that sank the 'Tsunami Ship' was the U.S.C.G.C. Anacapa.
She has the Bushmaster and a Mk. 19 in addition to two .50 caliber machine guns.

The Bushmaster is impressive for a 25mm; and the Mk. 19 40mm grenade launcher (though essentially a giant BB gun) still packs quite a wallop.

Either of these would be enough to sink that ship- the Mk. 19 was probably what opened big enough holes in her hull to sink her.

The video shows her coming alongside the boat after shooting her up and using her fire monitors to flood it.
