I thought that since there were a few different interpretations floating around regarding the correct colour found on RAN ships it might be a good idea to standardise on a colour before too many ships are drawn. So I'll leave it up to you of the Shipbucket community to decide which (if any) of these is the most appropriate:

Colour 1:

Colour 2:

Colour 3:

Colour 4:

And Haze Grey as a comparison:

Somewhere in-between 1 and 3 hue wise.

Ummm...ok.

Anyway I gravitate towards lighter, warmer colors like what I've done my AU in. That would probably mean Hue 3.

Just to complicate things more I've added another colour in which is basically a combination of all three original colours - but particularly 1 and 2 as they seem to be the most popular. Let me know what you think :)

Edit: Apparently the poll has reset...

I believe that the first hue is most accurate and I have recast my vote. I am hoping that this will be the recognised colour but even if it isn't it would be good to have a standard colour before I do too many more drawings :?

Well thank you to everyone who voted! Colour 1 is the clear winner so unless anyone has any objections, this is the one to use for RAN ships :) (though I'm not sure when it was first used...my guess would be sometime in the late 60's or early 70's)

I've drawn up a colour chart to help:

Note: The black underwater hull is not universal for all RAN vessels, as many ships use/used red.

The only problem here is that this has been a poll from all members, and we're assuming that all members have a reasonable working knowledge of RAN hull colouring? If this has been a poll for peoples favourite colours then I'm afraid it won't be workable. As such Colour 1 certainly looks the most attractive, but I consider it too dark; I'm intending to experiment with it to get a lighter hue and see if that suits me.
