Wonderfull drawings :D You're quite right about the spelling. There's a lot of different ways when it comes to doing it in latin letters. At my work there is at least three different ways to do it, but in the end we all know which type of vessel we're talking about ;)

Actually Golly, phonetically speaking, your choice is quite improbable; i e 'Sovremenniy'. As I know some Russian, having taken it while at my Swedish college, the most correct one pronounciation-wise should be the vowel-ending '-yi', since the compunded letter ЫЙ is formed by the Cyrillic letters representing 'y' (yeru) and a short 'i'; so, in other words, you've got it the otherway around. In English, and this is a mainly English-speaking site! - the spelling as translitterated would be 'Sovremennyi'. However, since the last letter is, in fact, only a short 'i', Kim's suggestion to just write it with a 'y' at the end is also correct. Of course, I do not know whether your spelling derives from a Finnish-language site. I know the Scandinavian languages use a very different translitteration, due to the differeing phonic sounds and spelling of these languages, compared to German, French or English!

Well the version I used is what the the word sounds phonecatically to my "mouth", eg corresponding to the Finnish transliteration. Like said I've noticed that the both either YI or IY ending is being used. In finnish language, Y is only used as a vowel, not like a subsitute for the letter j in english for example. Thus the IY or even II would be the most logical transliteration of the ЫЙ to my ear.

However like said, I think we are now nitpicking on issues nothing to do with the drawing of the ship.

I will only say that it's supposed to be an English-speaking forum, so a recognised English translitteration form ought to be used, but, then, again, whatever...I've said my piece, and that suffices... and, it has everything, in my view to do with the presentation of the drawing...a fact that can be ever so spoiled if not paying close enough attention to such things as spelling, font etc... the ship is very, very nice, virtually perfect in my eyes, so why not make it a 'perfect 10' then?
