Thanks ;) Just finished the official badge for HMS Lion and the british version for HMS Royalist. To compare I've the NZ version here too. Because I think it is funny that the british version (who was first) has a crown in the motive which I'll guess is a fantasy crown. I couldn't find any british crowns with a french lilly on the top instead of a cross. But the NZ version have a pure british crown :!:  :D

Hi Kim,

Are you sure it’s a French Lilly atop a Crown that you’re looking at, and that it’s not a British Coronet?

For your ease of reference, please see below a picture of the various Coronets used by the British nobility, together with a description.

With kind regards,

Andy.

Baron - A silver-gilt circlet with 6 silver balls set on the rim

Viscount - A silver-gilt circlet with 16 silver balls set on the rim

Earl - A silver-gilt circlet with 8 strawberry leaves alternating with 8 silver balls raised on points

Marquess - A silver-gilt circlet with 4 strawberry leaves alternating with 4 silver balls slightly raised on points

Duke - A gold circlet with 8 strawberry leaves

Yep :!: It's obvious a kings crown but I think it might be troublefull to show a real one without a kind of "king" in the name of the vessel. That's indeed my best guess :D
Here's the drawing from the Admiralty

The crown on the British version is the French crown as the ship was named in honour of French loyalists of the revolution. ;)

Thank you Bombhead ;) Now the french lilly gives meaning. In fact it's the french kings crown :D

Bombhead, for future reference, you may want to crop off the toolbar for privacy concerns.

Now I've attached Novice's excellent badge for HMS Hawkins on a template in our rather big series of british badges :D I couldn't let it go alone, so I took the opportunity to draw the badge for the KGV Class battleship HMS Howe. Here they both are:
