Shipbucket

My first attempt at the torpedo ram Polyphemus - I believe the all-grey colour scheme is accurate and indeed that she may have been the first RN warship to be so painted.

Ah - I had no idea. But still, that's my effort, and I look forward to seeing his - she's been one of my favourite warships ever since I learned she was likely the inspiration for the (probably much bigger and meaner) Thunder Child in War of the Worlds.

Why not do that instead?

It's certainly a good idea. I sort of envision Thunder Child as being along the same lines as the above, but cruiser-sized, with heavier gun armament (iirc she shot the leg off one Martian fighting machine), probably multi-funnelled. Hmm, yes - watch this space.

It looked in one adaptation like it was crossed with a Pre-dreadnought battleship

Yes - I think in the artwork for the Jeff Wayne musical version Thunder Child is shown as pretty much a generic British Pre-Dread (with side-by-side funnels at that!). Based on the description in the novel, though (iirc!), I picture her as something a bit longer and leaner and speedier. I'm paraphrasing, but I seem to remember her described as being like a log lying low in the water or something like that, and indeed the inspiration Polyphemus was like a semi-submersible with ballast tanks to keep her low down so that her ram would be able to hit enemy ships below the waterline.

It's sad that we've come to this misunderstanding as it's a ridiculously superb effort from a first-time drawer, almost like nothing I've seen.

Quite well drawn, I'll remove her from my worklist as I could not do better. One minor nitpick though, The small twin rudders under the ram are not the right shape, as shown by this photo:
