I have never seen or heard of another badge for Nelson only the one that dates from 1927.As a 1st rate the original would have had a distinctive figurehead.I think that is about as close as you will get Rodondo.

Just a question, would the Nelson badge for the 1930's battleship apply to all vessels of the name? I'm doing the 1814 one and cannot find a COA that hasn't been tied to the more famous Nelson class
No! The historic background for the badges is they are substitutes for the figureheads, which disappeared when the warships became entire iron and steel vessels. The crews on different ships wanted something illustrating their ship to connect with, so in the beginning of the 20th century the first unofficial badgs appeared. I don't know if Royal Navy or the German Imperial Navy was the first to begins with official badges, but Royal Navy started for sure in the late 1919 with official badges for their ships ;)

[Edit] It seems that you already get the answer as pm from Bombhead ;)

That makes sense, thanks Kim for that insight into that, I' though that the crest was a longer lasting tradition than that but I was wrong ;)

My first attempt at a crest, and a preview of my current project

edit:I've updated the crest, as suggested.

Novice it's nice to see you in the CoA drawing threads. Your attempt is not bad but I will recommend you to lighten the blue background a bit. I know which source you used and that blue is very beautifull but often a little darker than original. Besides that you should smooth the wawes. Eventually kit batch some wawes from another badge ;)
When you are drawing this badge, can I expect you will draw this beautifull heavy cruiser too :?: :D
[Edit] Oh, you certainly wrote that too. How could I oversee that
[Edit Mar 03, 2012] Excellent :D I will put in a template and attach it to the other members of the british CoA's ;)

This weekend I was able to sneek two of the unofficial badges into drawings. But I need some informative help. The HMS Laurel is written a lot about but her exact servicetime was impossible for me to find out :( She was launched 1913 and scrapped in 1921. Commisioning and decomissioning???? Anyone have this info :?:

Thank you Kim. Excellent job, as always! I've sent a pm to Jabba about it, so, hopefully, he'll post 'badged' editions soon enough. I also asked him to go over rurik-2:s Queen Mary, since it's otherwise a very fine product and ought to be represented here. Thus we're only missing the fourth 'Cat'! (HMS Tiger)
