M/S Argonaut of the Epirotiki Lines


Originaly builded as a yacht in 1929 in Germany for an american wool manufacturer and named Orion.
On 1940 purchased by USN and reconstracted as a gunboat with name USS Vixen PG-53.
Served during WWII, after the war ended in 1945, the Vixen remained in the Navy but was decommissioned on 24 May 1946. She was transferred to the War Shipping Administration and was sold on 21 January 1947. The Vixen was converted into the cruise ship Orion (her original name) in 1950. In 1964, the Orion was purchased by the Epirotiki Lines and was completely rebuilt and renamed Argonaut. She enjoyed much success as a cruise ship and in 1996 was sold to a company in Egypt. Renamed the MV Regina Maris, the old gunboat was used for cruises in the Red Sea. As of June 2002, she was laid up at Alexandria, Egypt, and was on the market for sale. Finally scrapped in Alang, India

Navarchos, another great drawing of the ARGONAUT. One small correction on her history: she arrived for breaking at Aliaga, Turkey on December 2, 2004.

RMS St Helena is a combiliner (carrying cargo and passengers) that serves the British overseas territory of Saint Helena. She sails between Cape Town and Saint Helena with regular shuttles continuing to Ascension Island. Some voyages also serve Walvis Bay on route to/from, or occasionally instead of, Cape Town. She visited Portland, Dorset twice a year with normal calls in the Spanish ports of Vigo (Northbound) and Tenerife (Southbound). She is one of the last remaining ocean-going ships to carry the designation Royal Mail Ship.

Great work sailor82 on the last RMS. One thing is the funnel logo which seems a little fuzzy.

Thanks Novice. I'm not 100% happy with my effort so far on the logo. It's raised from the funnel and I tried to show some depth to that. There is also a coat of arms on the bow, which I tried to show here, but it is small and barely visible.
