Looks very similar to what Norway want. Only 25 meter longer and a bit slower. (Norway want 25 knots+)

Good looking vessel and good to hear that the RN will finally be ordering them. Just a pity they won't be built in Britain.

Actually I think it's a good thing. The UK doesn't have the capacity to built them. In order to do you'd need to train up a whole lot of new and expensive workers who'd have to be laid off once the project is over. This would lead to a massive cost increase which would increase the likelihood of the ships being cancelled. As it stands about a third of the money will end up in Britain (Design etc) and last time I checked 33% of something is a lot more than 100% of nothing. So yeah, overall a sensible solution.

Have to Agree Thiel and if BaE was involved we'd pay £453 million each for them they'd not enter service till 2026 and not be up to spec.
With a program like this on the go how many other countries are looking for a ship with similar capabilities the Norwegians have been mentioned and if they comprimised over the 25Knots they may be able to save money by joining a bigger program as much of the kit will be covered by STNAAG's.

LOL, you guys are probably right about the cost aspect. I think DSME is a lot more likely to deliver these ships on time, on spec and on budget. And to be honest, the Dutch navy works much the same for auxiliaries and patrol vessels (hardware built in Romania, all the outfitting and fancy schmancy stuff done in the Netherlands).

Another aspect is that the design will be much easier to sell since it doesn't come with a builder attached. That means that foreign navies can buy the design even though they're politically required to built their ships in country. It also makes it much easier to adapt it since it doesn't have to fit onto a production line.

So interesting. When the likes of Margaret Thatcher was running this country, it was the accepted ideology that we didn't need to make anything anymore, we could leave that to second rate countries: meanwhile our economy settled on London and the South East, essentially a service economy that pimped the financial sector. Of course, a few deluded idiots still tried to make things, but they were clearly misguided. So, here we are, after Tony Blair as another (this time Labour) idiot, we have another Conservative goverment that (belatedly) recognises that actually exporting a finished product may be a good idea; but, alas, we don't have any manufacturing to speak of that is British owned (our Japanese car factories lead the world btw). So yes, let's leave it to the German's, the Koreans, the Finn's, to build ships - clearly the British cannot.

And, please note, this is another factor that is bringing down the USA to its knees: the loss of the manufacturing segment that gives people jobs and dignity.
