haha been there, done that

for an gas turbine propulsion on a ship this size, you would need about the amount of uptakes of an spruance/tico.... and the same intake surface as well. sooo.... I think you still need to enlarge the funnel 50% and add some more intakes.

it doesn't look too bad, though...... I think this is about the right size for the funnel. the only thing you could do if you don't like that huge funnel, is split it in 2.

btw, why the russian ASM launchers next to the helideck? and the SPQ-9A on the rear mast is useless, you have enough (gun) directors over there.

Two things:
  • The ASROC you left is the nuclear depth bomb one.
  • You can extend the hanger deck out over the Mk 26 magazine. That buys you a much larger helipad at no cost.

@ timothy: can you? isn't the reload system at the far end of the system?

Its not so much the size which concerns me, its my random placement of the vents and such on the side which looks "off" to me. I suppose I could split it, I like the look of twin funnels better anyhow, but what about the vents and intakes? Do those look alright?

The use of the Russian launcher was purely esthetic on my part. I use the RB-08, Tarantula in my navy, as my main SSM for the period of 1972-87. But, I don't really care for the way the launchers look. So, I found that the CT20/RB-08 was quite similar in size to the Soviet P-15 Termit which did in fact use that launcher, and decided to use it instead. The Tarantula was replaced with the Scorpion (RBS-15) in the mid 80's, just after the time the first 5 ships in Group 1 of Mars class cruisers (6 ships total) was built. Artemis is #4, so it has the older missile system. Group 1 cruiser #6, Diana, was the first to be fitted with the Scorpion, as were all of Group 2 (16 cruisers). The first 5 Group 1 cruisers were eventually retro-fitted with Scorpion as well during refits in the the 80's-early 90's. Scorpion was then superceded by the Viper (NSM) in about 2006-08, but most ships fitted with Scorpion have not been retro-fitted with Viper as yet.
As for the SPQ-9A, I thought that both the SPQ-9A and SPG-60 were required to work together, so since I had guns fore and aft, I put directors fore and aft. If that not required, I can remove them, no big deal.

Oops. Picked the wrong image is all.

If thats true, thats something I'd like to do, but I'll wait to see what the answer to Ace's question about reloads is before I go changing it.

I'm fairly certain that the reload hatch doesn't have to be at the very back of the magazine.

One thing you may wish to do with later versions is replace the aft SPG-60 mount with a third SPG-62. The Burkes use the AEGIS Combat system to do gun control, so I don't see why it wouldn't be possible here - and it buys you a third long range guidance set.
