The camo screams panzer at me. Very curious, but certainly attractive.

The camouflage is a mixture of Measure 12 modified (the splotch scheme) and Measure 22. At this time all the units in the Pacific fleet were switching from Ms12 mod to Ms22, and the repainting was only done when ships were in harbor. Since 1942 was arguably when single ships were the busiest, there was never a chance to totally repaint the ship, leading to the mixed camo schemes on Atlanta and Juneau.

As it stands I'm not totally clear on what the right colors were for Juneau's wave pattern on the hull. I believe it's correct but would appreciate a solid answer from someone knowledgeable.

These received a minor refit in 1945 that added a second SG set and relocated the SC-2 antenna to the foremast, but I can't be bothered to make an entirely new drawing for such a minor change and I'm sure none of you guys would have really noticed.

That said, old vessels like this, with very little existing documentation aside from inaccurate line drawings and blurry/grainy photos taken during yard overhauls are the true test of the Shipbucketteer. Until you've dug through all the available references to ensure that every gun tub and every radar and light AA gun is in the right position for the time period you're depicting the ship, I won't consider you a true contributor.

I challenge the modern ship artists who spend months redrawing widely-known vessels with hundreds of good, high-quality, high-resolution source material to have a crack at some older warships to see just how difficult this process is.

My only stipulation is that you do it with the amount of research and attention to detail that I do on my ships... if you asked me to I could literally tell you what every single pixel on this ship does and why it is there (as with all my drawings). I don't feel like a lot of Shipbucket artists can do that.

Just finding some old ship and tracing a drawing of it doesn't count!
