CWL = Construction Water Line, which, however, is not always the same as the Design Water Line, since actual CWL takes into concern some aspects of the overall design which the design wl doesn't. Usually the DWL is used for Preliminary Designs only too.

Another fine piece of work. I've always thought the Whicita was the best looking American CA of the 1930s, it just looks right. Almost like an American County with high freeboard and tall funnels.

What I learned, the old-fashioned way was that the cwl was preferred since it reflected such matter as deviation in weight distribution and calculation errors, meaning that even in a class of ships, if built by different builders the dwl would remain the same, whereas the cwl would vary due to the individual practices of the various yards. Now, today this may have changed and become simplified due to increased automation and computerization, together with increasing amount of prefabrication ensuring a tighter weight control being implemented.

If it isn't, it's certainly a contender for the title.

There's no such thing as "nothing left to draw" If you can down 10 pints and draw, you're doing alright by my standards

Goodness... to each his own. I don't see how anyone could prefer this to Brooklyn or Des Moines, but there ya go.
