This is USS Cleveland as built. Note the absence of 40mm guns, the elaborate boat arrangements, and the round bridge. The Cleveland class was modified later on with more AA and an open bridge. I plan to do that refit soon.

Plans for this class' later refit include CL-81 USS Houston and CL-90 Astoria.

Not too happy with how this turned out... since it was a redraw it was a bit of a chore to do, and I cut some corners in the drawing process. That combined with the complete lack of detail shots of Cleveland in its first (early) configuration made this drawing end up rather bland. Still, I think it's a big improvement over the old version here.

Here's the revised Cleverland, perhaps someone will be doing the Galveston and Providence class conversions.
(I know we have the Galveston, but we don't have the non command ship configuration. If no one is doing it, may I?)

I have excellent references for the Talos configurations, and I've actually done a private update, which needs only the newest part. Of course I've done this with the Okie which was drawn by Darth Panda and Colo. One major issue on that drawing was the absence of the ship's boats.

You guys are free to do the missile cruiser conversions at your leisure, I really have no interest.

Edit: Note to bezobrazov: all the Baltimore/Oregon City/Fargo/Cleveland hulls will receive the characteristic stern "v" line when I get some time tomorrow. Was going to retrofit them all tonight but did this instead.

I suspect this version is in error with regards to the SG on the foremast. Waveguide problems (especially with the very high frequency sets) bedeviled the USN, and for some time SG was seen right atop the pilothouse not because this is a good position (it is not), but because it was the only place on the ship that was close enough to the below-decks components of the radar system.

I do not know precisely when the solution to this problem became clear, but I believe it was some time after 1942. I will do my best to uncover the answer tomorrow.

A very attractive design. Re the open bridge replacing this closed type, I'd be interested to know why the change, as it appears to go against the trend. The RN prefered open bridges for better overhead spotting of attacking aircraft (Stuka's in particular), and of course, to keep the chaps alert on watch (didn't work, closed was better in that respect).
Anyway, another gem
